Just saw this video on how to make alcohol inks. Good info, bad video. Take a look. I haven't tried it yet.

April 2015 - Patterns
This is glen's piece. Creative suggestions were offered to improve the composition. It needed a couple of ideas!
Wendy combined 2 photos to create this piece. It is a stunning sunset that is free motion quilted.
Judy used alcohol based paints to create these patterns. She
used various media as the base.

Judy used Photoshop to create a composite photo manipulated with lighting effects to create this palm tree. The background is a commercial piece of fabric.
It is not complete.
Judy used acrylics and Shiva Paintsticks to produce this two sided piece of material for future use.
Mary brought some earlier pieces. This is a small collage of papers torn from various sources.
March 2015
This was Wendy's piece.
I think this is Renee's piece
Bebe shared her morning glories that was Photoshopped using multiple layers.
This was Judy's piece.
Judy's piece was resurrected from a Photoshopped project laid aside in a previous work. The washers were used to print blue circles on another piece!
Tracy showed her One Block Wonder quilt made from tiger print and an LSU print.
Judy brought us a technique using small bits and pieces to create embellishments for projects.
Tracy is working on a series of Fleur de Lis projects.

January 2015 Meeting - Just Desserts
According to WiseGeek the phrase "just desserts" is an eggcorn which is a spelling error that is based upon a mishearing or misspelling at some time. It was originally "just deserts". It is based upon the word "deservire" or "desert" which has meant "to deserve" since the 13th century. So the phrase may mean you pretty much get what you deserve.

Tracy deconstructed a Godiva Chocolate Box for her piece. She used the gold foil, the tissue and parts of the box design to create her flower.
Bebe used a cherry on top of CoolWhip for her inspiration. She thread painted the manipulated photo for a luscious dessert!
Judy collaged fabric and paper from magazines to create her piece on canvas. She also printed from gel plates and stitched using 12 weight threads.
glen paperpieced a birthday cake with a beaded icing base. It is bound with an orange flange.
Renee appliqued two crane fabrics to create the illusion the cranes were moving between the two spaces.

Art Rocks--"RIFT"
This is my piece created for the November challenge themed "rocks". I've had this image on my computer for several years waiting for the right occasion. I took the image in my son's yard then layered it in Photoshop elements with a background texture. I used black Eco felt for batting. The piece measures approximately 10" x 8".

Art Rocks!
Our theme for the November meeting was "rocks".
Two of us actually remembered to bring our challenge pieces to the meeting! If anyone wants me to add their piece to the post, just send it to me.

BeBe's hubby took this photo in Yosemite National Park. She manipulated the photo and added some jade to make this heart rock.
Serenity Rocks! is a pattern I was testing for friend Carol. It is one of those rock cairns to which hikers add a rock as they pass. It is a serenity thing, a moment of reflection at a point of beauty and inspiration.
Judy showed a new technique using a transfer sheet called Terial. It was easy to print on and had a soft hand in the finished piece.
It is a mailbox!
Judy's Words uses several techniques including photo manipulation and gelli printing. It was created for an exhibit featuring Elvis songs.
Judy uses painted canvas bits and pieces in her creations. Here is a canvas she has created for future pieces.

Judy brought last month's apple as a finished piece.
Construction materials were exchanged. Can't wait to see what that becomes.
And then there was a parade of purchases from the Houston Quilt Show. Oh, yes. Silk and linen love!
